Freezone Sohar is being developed as a joint venture between the Government of Oman, the Port of Rotterdam and SKIL Infrastructure Limited of India. Phase 1 will be constructed on a 500 hectare plot within the 4,500 ha site, with construction scheduled to start at the end of the year (2010).
Situated alongside the Port of Sohar, the freezone is being introduced to attract downstream investments to add value to industries already using the port.
A proposed network of dedicated operational corridors between the site and the port will allow for the easy movement of containerised traffic, petrochemicals, and other products.
