NSW to invest US$ 304m in port infrastructure

“Ports are our economic gateway to the world,” said Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay, adding that a further Aus$168.7m (US$60.5m) is being invested on the Aus$1bn (US$880m) Port Botany Expansion project, including Aus$11.9m (US$10.5m) for landside improvements.

Other SPC projects supported this year include the development of the Enfield intermodal logistics centre that will assist the NSW Government in achieving its target of more than 40% freight carried by rail, development of a new White Bay passenger cruise terminal and a second bulk liquids facility. In addition a new Vessel Traffic Services System will be introduced along with two replacement Pilot vessels.

At the same time, Port Kembla Port Corporation is to invest Aus$23.8m (US$21m) on building a better port, including developing the outer harbour, which will see the start of reclaiming an initial 8–10 hectares of land later this year.
