Four days into the dispute over pay and conditions, most shipping at the port has stopped after shippers locked out 850 dock workers on Monday following a breakdown in talks.
Negotiators for the MEA and the union representing dock worker are scheduled to sit down with mediators today (Thursday) and Friday.
Montreal handles around 90% of imported goods destined for Quebec and eastern Ontario, however no containers are being handled from ships at docks operated by the union. The grain terminal, which is operated by the Port Authority, is operating as usual.
