Gulftainer has also been awarded the concession for the larger Iraq Container Terminal (ICT) on berths 10 & 11 – the largest concession yet awarded by the Iraqi Ports Authority and the Iraqi Ministry of Transport.
The facility is scheduled to commence operations as a dedicated container terminal in August 2011, capable of handling larger vessels more efficiently than the multipurpose berths.
The company is currently investing around US$60m in Iraq including an ICD/logistics centre in the Umm Qasr region plus other cargo villages and logistics projects throughout Iraq, in addition to the in Umm Qasr terminals.
