It is understood that both blame the other for the incident, with Captain Laxman Dubey of the ‘Khalijia-3’ claiming that there was no response from the ‘MSC Chitra’ despite repeated efforts on his part to make contact with the vessel.
In response, Captain Minguelino Martin of the ‘MSC Chitra’ accused the master of ‘Khalijia-3’ of being responsible for the disaster, adding that the vessel was not seaworthy having been grounded for three weeks off Mumbai.
In a statement issued by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the company said that it understood the ‘Khalijia-3’ had recently been salvaged following grounding and was proceeding into port to discharge her cargo, “still under the control of professional salvors”.
