First half growth for Hamburg

Overall container traffic, hit particularly hard during 2009, also increased to reach 3.7m teu, a gain of 4.3%. Asia, which includes China, remained the most important market for Hamburg recording growth of 2.2m teu (+6.9%).

In June container handling in the port rose by 16.5% compared to the previous month, to register the port’s best container handling results since December 2008.

“The pleasing figures confirm the clear upward trend in cargo,” said Claudia Roller, CEO of the Port of Hamburg’s marketing organisation.
