Jacksonville-based BLT Logistics (BLT), the US distributor of Mobicon, believes the system provides the solution to the changing market requirements. Designed to lift containers onto and off chassis, Mobicon safely carries containers around warehouses, container freight stations, drayage yards, intermodal facilities and packing stations.
“These laws stipulate equipment providers must implement programmes for inspection, repair and maintenance of chassis,” says Ryan Mouritzen, vice president of BLT. “Not only have ocean carriers traditionally provided chassis for truckers, but have also been responsible for the maintenance costs. Truckers are now left with the option of either leasing chassis – the cost of which will be passed on to customers, thus escalating their transport expenses.
According to Mouritzen, an efficient option is for the receiver to invest in its own Mobicon container handler which can unload the container from the chassis on arrival, immediately releasing the chassis. After the container has been unloaded, the drayage company can then pick up the empty container and return to the empty container depot.
