Two more gantries for Felixstowe South

The berths will be equipped with seven ZPMC hybrid-drive eco quayside cranes, along with 22 RTGs. The cranes are the biggest of their type in the world, and are capable of handling future generations of container ships with 24 containers across on deck. Each crane weighs approximately 2,000 tonnes and is capable of lifting two containers simultaneously, up to a total of 70 tonnes.

Phase two of Felixstowe South, which will create four new deepwater berths with a total length of 1,285 m, will be equipped with 13 ship-to-shore gantry cranes, and is currently expected to be operational by 2014. This will provide an overall annual capacity of 5.3m teu at the port.
