Last year the port achieved a remarkable 65% growth at a time when the worldwide container market declined by 12% and cargo volumes in the catchment area of North West India declined by 4.3%. So far this year growth is around 50% over last year.
“International shipping lines are increasingly recognising the strategic importance of the hinterland around Port Pipavav and its excellent access into North West India. The port’s catchment area has huge growth potential for shipping companies,” said Ashley Dinning, chief commercial officer, APM Terminals Pipavav.
Strategically located 153 nautical miles from Mumbai, Port Pipavav has a well developed port infrastructure, with the opportunity for future growth as only 485 of the 1561 acres of available land at the port is so far developed.
