SeaFreight currently operates eight container ships at Port Everglades with twice weekly fixed-day sailings to and from the Caribbean region. During its 18 years as a Port Everglades customer, the company has relied on other terminal operators to handle its cargo which has grown by 89% since 2004.
For Port Everglades, the guaranteed value of the SeaFreight agreement, including rent, will grow from US$2,41m to $4,13m over the lease period. The port expects volume guarantees will exceed current cargo levels by 23% within the first six years.
In other news, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded a US$750,000 grant to Port Everglades for diesel emissions reduction through the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Clean Diesel Campaign. The port is also contributing US$510,000 to emissions reduction projects at the port.
