It is reported that the two shipping lines will pay SEK48m (US$7.2m) and that the agreement will come into effect in January 2011. The agreement covers cargo handling operations, with the quays and infrastructure remaining under municipal ownership through the recently formed Port Authority.
DFDS and C.Ports (a sister company to Cobelfret) are to operate the terminal through a new joint company, the first such collaboration to own and operate a Ro/ro terminal by the two shipping lines.
“It feels extremely positive that two of the port’s largest customers have joined forces to run the Ro/ro terminal,” said Sven Hulterström, Chairman of Port of Gothenburg.
