This depth will enable oil to be transported from Multipuerto in volumes that may reach up to 10m tons annually in the medium term. It will also allow large amounts of coal to be transported, as well as grain, fertilisers and other cargoes such as containers.
According to Multipuerto, total volumes could amount to 5m tons – more than what is currently being transported through Colombia’s three Caribbean Sea ports of Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta.
