This is the third time in less than 12 months for SP-PSA, twice beating its own record when it handled Maersk Line’s 115,993 dwt vessel Margrethe Maersk at an average rate of 111 containers per hour during its port stay. The 9,038 teu capacity Margrethe Maersk operates Maersk Line’s TP6 direct weekly service together with 13 sister ships from Vietnam to the US West Coast.
Le Cong Minh, chairman and general director of Saigon Port and chairman of SPPSA said, “By breaking the productivity record three times in less than 12 months, SP-PSA has shown its continuing commitment to providing the very highest level of service to our customers. We are immensely grateful to Maersk Line for their great support and cooperation. “
Slated to become a major hub for ASEAN, the terminal will be developed in two phases, with the first phase of 600 m of berths and 14.5 m water depth now operational. When both phases (1,200 m of berths) are fully completed, SP-PSA will have a projected annual capacity of over 2m teu.
