The new facility will result in increased volumes for the port, with the terminal expected to handle 1.5m tonnes of paper and other forest products, equivalent to 110,000 teu, within the first year of operation. RPG is aiming for full capacity utilisation within just a few years.
A large proportion of the trade will be new volumes for the port, which, last year (2009), handled 820,000 teu.
“In recent times world demand for Swedish paper has increased and RPG’s new terminal means we have yet another company in the port serving the forestry industry, further reinforcing our role as a hub for Swedish paper exports,” said Magnus Kårestedt, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive.
