Gothenburg currently has 23 terminals and 26 shuttles and the port is now looking to reinforce this network by highlighting the significance of the terminals to logistics flows. This is to be achieved by means of a rating system, making it possible to measure and evaluate operations at the terminals.
“The principle is the same as awarding hotels stars,” said Stig-Göran Thorén, Gothenburg’s General Manager Business Rail. “As a hotel customer you choose your accommodation according to your wallet and needs. The number of stars tells you what you can expect and our customers will receive the same type of information.”
Four parameters are used in the rating system: conditions and geographical location, range of services, safety and security and physical layout. When all the questions have been answered a weighted figure is produced on a five-point scale. The system has been tested at the Vaggeryd Terminal with good results and the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications has given it the thumbs up. The rating figures will also appear in marketing material produced by the Port of Gothenburg and the terminals.
