By converting the machines from diesel to a combination of electric and diesel power through the installation of a new power coupling systems, the company claims that it will reduce RTG carbon dioxide emissions by between 60-80%.
The new hybrid power supply option will utilise recent technological advances in busbar rails to provide electric power.
As the result of industry development in this area, electrified RTGs (E-RTGs) can now be connected and disconnected automatically from the busbar through the use of a retractable connector arm attached to the RTG. This system allows the RTG power to switch between the diesel engine and electricity from the busbar automatically and without interruption.
