The company told CM that developing a rigid secure side access container proved to be a difficult challenge, with initial prototypes revealing various flaws. The final design with upward-folding ‘wing’ doors, offers push-button operation that activates a hydraulic system powered by a truck’s battery. The sides can be opened or closed in about 20 seconds.
When shut the solid walls provide a high level of security, making the unit idea for the movement of high-value goods. The unit can carry 33 euro pallets, 66 in double-stack mode, and can be transported by truck, train or ship and top-lifted using 45ft or 40ft spreader positions.
At the same time UNIT 45 has developed new diesel-electric double-stack or twin-compartment reefer containers, primarily intended for use in multimodal rail operations.
