The new ships will have an overall length of 334.8 metres, a beam of 45.8 m and a maximum draught of 14.2 m. All will be utilised on line’s worldwide services in various trade lanes. The first vessel is due for delivery in 2013.
As part of Evergreen’s latest shipbuilding programme, the order follows those placed last July and September for 20 similar L-class vessels with Samsung Heavy Industries; there are due for delivery from the beginning of 2012.
They have been designed with fuel-saving features to reduce carbon emissions; AMP (alternative maritime power) shore electric power will reduce air polluting emissions while the ships are in harbour. The capacity of the marine gas oil tanks will also be enlarged to comply with the requirements of emission control areas.
