Port Authority CEO Alec G. Dreyer reported the port continued to exhibit strong growth trends in all cargo commodity groupings, noting in particularly its “booming” steel trade, with tonnage up 31% for the month and 69% year-to-date compared to 2010. Container revenue jumped 31% as a result of “strong teu gains in March (+16.1%) and April (+19.4%). Year-to-date, the teu count increased by 9% and containerised cargo by 11%,” he said.
