The system, produced by the Belgian manufacturer Camco, will also be installed at HHLA’s other two terminals at Burchardkai and Tollerort. A similar system has already been installed successfully at the Port of Antwerp.
The self-service registration is straightforward; on arrival at the terminal all a driver needs is a valid trucker card and complete container data, and then follow the touchscreen instructions, available in six languages.
“We tackled this together with the truckers. The touchscreen contributed greatly to acceptance of the system. Once a driver has checked-in two or three times the process becomes very rapid,” explained Holger Mewes, CTA project manager, Terminal Development.
