Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is to upgrade its Asia-East Coast South America Service (CSW) over the next 18 months with the introduction of ten new 5,600 teu containerships, replacing its current vessels. An additional ship will also be added to the service from this month (July), bringing the number of ships on the service to 13 with a rotation turnaround of 91 days.

MOL enhances CSW service with new ships

Along with the fleet expansion, MOL will begin chartering space to a consortium including NYK Line, “K” Line, Hyundai Merchant Marine and Pacific International Line (PIL).

The newbuildings will adopt a new wide-beam and shallow-draft design, featuring high loading capacity and compatibility with shallow-draft ports in South America, as well as superior fuel efficiency.

To be built at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (South Korea) shipyard, the new containerships will have a length of 275.1 metres; breadth of 40 m and a draft of 14 m. They will have a capacity of 71,407 tonnes.

The rotation will be Xingang, Dalian, Qingdao, Pusan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Santos, Buenos Aires), Montevideo), Paranagua, Sao Francisco Do Sul, Santos, Rio De Janeiro, Cape Town, Ngqura, Singapore, Hong Kong and Xingang.
