Samskip has long been an important customer of the Port of Duisburg and handles its ship-based traffic over the DeCeTe terminal. “We and we are pleased that from now on Samskip’s subsidiary Van Dieren will operate its rail-based services via the intermodal of Duisport,” said Erich Staake, CEO of the Port of Duisburg.
With a total investment of more than Euro 20m (US$28m) the new 120,000 sq m terminal will have seven tracks and two gantry cranes and Hohenbudberg will then be able to handle up to 250,000 teu/year. The new terminal is expected to start operating in the second quarter of 2012.
The connection to the industrial area Hohenbudberg and the planned KV-Terminal will be via a newly built road bridge that replaces the current bridge.
