Truck turnaround times have also improved, with trucks being handled on average within 30 minutes to deliver and/or collect up to two export/import containers.
DPW Southampton is also reporting significant productivity improvements on vessel operations with quay crane rates up 20%, resulting in the terminal creating a new record of an average 160 moves per hour across a single ship’s stay in port.
“Southampton now leads the UK’s major container ports in terms of rail modal share for import and export containers. We are also fortunate that additional rail capacity can be added to meet growing customer demand without further infrastructure upgrades,” said Chris Lewis, managing director, DP World Southampton.
