The Mi-Jack 1200R EH, the first hybrid electric RTG crane for the rail industry that was introduced in January at the Union Pacific Railroad intermodal facility in Long Beach, has achieved energy savings of over 70% annually while also reducing emissions by the same percentage. EcoPower Hybrid Systems received a Clean Air Excellence Award for the development of its EcoCrane product, which can be fitted to cranes at manufacturer or as a retrofit system.
“We did a lot of work with the people from EcoPower Hybrid Systems in the development of the MJ 1200R EH. Their expertise in batteries, electric regeneration and their proprietary computer software for maximising the technology was very impressive. We knew we could both benefit from them coming on board as an organisation,” said Harvey Schmidt, vice-president of Technical Support for Mi-Jack.
The acquisition gives EcoPower Hybrid Systems access to Mi-Jack’s extensive service division, international technical services and technical developments in modernizing container handling equipment for ports and intermodal rail operations.
