TecPlata which is projected to have a 1,000,000 teu annual capacity when all three phases of construction are finished, will only cater to containerised cargo but may expand its services to other types of shipment later on.
At the start of operations, the access channel to the Port will be dredged from 28 feet (8.5 m) to 34 feet (10.4 m) and the channel inside the docks will be widened 50 m.
From the total land area of the terminal, 20 hectares will be used as its container yard and internal roads during the first phase of construction and 15 hectares more will be added later. Phase one will be equipped with four quay cranes and nine RTGs with another two quay cranes and four RTGs to be added soon after phase one is operational.
