“Lighting has been well down on the list of priorities for many terminal operators in the past,” said Jeff Newman Globaltechled’s president. “However, the obvious benefits ranging from safety to cost-savings and from reliability to environmental issues are now being universally recognised.”
Newman points out that LED White Lighting fulfils a number of requirements including increased night-time cargo handling efficiency, a 15 year lifecycle with no maintenance requirements, a power reduction of 80%, improved horizontal and vertical light strength and uniformity, optimum lighting using the minimum number of masts, bright light for images from high-value closed circuit television and reduced glare that distracts truck drivers and workers.
“The importance of high quality lighting cannot be over-emphasised, particularly in the three most important zones requiring high lighting levels, minimal glare and superior white colour for night-time container handling – the berths, container yards and roads,” said Newman.”
