Supporting equipment includes three Gottwald and three Demag mobile harbour cranes, 10 Mitsubishi RTGs, eight reachstackers and 17 toplifters.
Capable of accommodating container vessels of 6,000+ teu, DCHC manages and operates four container berths in the port totalling 1,050 m in length (three berths of 250 m and one of 300 m) with alongside depths of up to 14.5 m, although a dredging project is planned to increase these to 17 m.
A new facility is being built to provide more capacity and to enable the port to receive the new generation of vessels coming into service over the next few years. A venture known as Damietta International Port Company (DIPCO), comprising KGL Ports International Group (a subsidiary of Kuwait and Gulf Link Holding Co), China Shipping (20%), CMA CGM and UASC, has been awarded a 40-year concession by the Damietta Port Authority (DPA) to develop a new container terminal.
