The trial was undertaken to ascertain Michelin’s claim that the tyres, which are designed for shunting applications, can reduce operating costs and increase uptime in typically low mileage applications, with significant slow speed manoeuvring.
“Remould tyres have always been our preference. We hadn’t imagined what a difference fitting a dedicated industrial tyre could make, which vastly exceeded our expectations,” said Melvyn Evans, operations manager at William Gilder.
The tyres were fitted to two Terberg YT182 terminal tractors hired to one of the company’s customers and compared against previous non-Michelin remould tyres on a third identical vehicle. They were tested at two sites where they were exposed to abrasive hard concrete surfaces.
