Within the new contract, OOCL has committed to increase capacity by 50% with daily wagons being linked between the Freightliner terminal at the UK Port of Southampton and its strategic terminal networks at Birmingham, Leeds and Trafford Park [Manchester].
Focussing on environmentally friendly operations through the use of efficient rail freight networks over the past ten years, OOCL has utilised Freightliner’s services to take more than 320,000 trucks off the roads in the UK to lower CO2 emissions.
Stephen Ng, OOCL’s director for Corporate Planning said that Freightliner’s UK network and overnight services had allowed the shipping line to provide customers with fast and efficient access to the UK hinterland.
