Originally established to serve ABB’s own crane systems, the business reached net sales of approximately €6m (US$8m) in 2010. The acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on Konecranes’ results in 2011.
“ABB Schweiz’ crane systems business is a valuable addition to Konecranes. Our position in Switzerland is further strengthened by the company’s large customer base, the good connections to all industries and not least the experienced and highly qualified employees,” said Demo Scordialo, managing director of Konecranes GmbH in Germany. ABB Schweiz has 30 employees.
ABB’s main business activities are concentrated in two key areas: energy and automation technology, providing systems and all-in-one solutions for utility companies and industrial companies throughout the world. ABB has approximately 130,000 employees globally, of which more than 6,000 are based in Switzerland.
