The approval by the port authority is the first initiative to extend the Valparaiso quay in more tan 16 years and will involve increasing the current quay of Berths 1 to 3 by 120 m, with 14.5 m depth alongside, enabling the simultaneous berthing of two post-Panamax container vessels.
According to the company, the project will transform TPS into the most modern and efficient terminal operator in the country for this size of vessels.
The expansion project will require investments of around US$70m. Besides the works associated with the construction of the new berth extension, the project also includes the purchase of three new super post- Panamax cranes and upgrading the current infrastructure needed to operate them.
