Since it began operations only eight months ago in June 2011, three lines have commenced calling Itapoá and the W-MED will be the fourth service.
In addition, and also during February, a fifth service – the joint Maersk, Safmarine, Cosco and Hanjin (SAMBA) from North Europe – will also call. This latest addition will be an important milestone for Itapoá as it will be the first in which the port’s shareholder, the Hamburg Sud Group comprising Aliança Navegação e Logística and Hamburg Süd, is not a participant.
Other lines are said to be considering calling Itapoá and by June 2012 it is predicted a new line for Europe and a service for the East Coast of North America will begin regular services.
