The 1,700-tonne cranes were built by Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC) and have an outreach of 22 containers, with a height of 42 metres under spreader and a maximum lifting capacity of 61 tonnes.
Alejandro Kouruklis, general manager of TERCAT, said, “These new quay cranes are equipped with the latest technology and will be able to handle the biggest vessels in service. Together with the 36 automated stacking cranes, the new quay cranes will significantly increase productivity levels at the Port of Barcelona.”
With a planned annual handling capacity of 2.65m teu, civil works at Muelle Prat are progressing well and on schedule to provide a total area of 100 hectares with a quay length of 1,500 metres; the terminal will also have eight rail tracks connecting it to the European rail network.
