Delivered fully erected, the cranes will undergo commissioning tests and be progressively deployed for operations from next month (May). The new equipment that will ensure faster turnaround of vessels, brings to seven the number of STS cranes and 18 the number of RTGs on the terminal, more than doubling its existing handling capacity.
Raghu Sankar, Chairman of Shipping Committee of Southern India Chamber of Commerce & Industry commented, “Chennai is a growing market for export/import trade. To meet the ever increasing trade demand it is necessary that the port’s cargo handling capability is enhanced. It is good news to the trade & industry to see this new addition of equipment in PSA’s Chennai International Terminals.”
