Cargotec seals Malaysian straddle carrier deal

Fitted with a modular drive system that directly drives the wheel hubs, the Kalmar Edrive® ESC range of straddle carriers offer lower operating costs and are designed with a stronger side frame for continuous twin-lift operations. The new W-type front cabin together with Smoothlift(TM) hoist system and rigid frame ensures excellent visibility and driver comfort.

These latest units form part of the operator’s strategy to replace its existing fleet of 37 machines with newer models to meet the demands for increased efficiency as a result of the continuing growth in intra-Asia container traffic in the region. Last year (2011) Northport handled approximately 3.3m teu.

This latest deal follows a recent contract in which Cargotec was commissioned to refurbish and upgrade eight ship-to-shore quay cranes at Northport’s Container Terminal Two. Over the last year the company has converted older cranes to utilise the latest crane management system software and wireless remote diagnostics tools to ensure faster recovery time, higher uptime, and lower maintenance costs in the future.
