It is to be built adjoining Global’s existing facility on land the Port Authority acquired in 2007 to ensure scarce waterfront property would be used for waterfront business.
New shared gate facilities at the terminal will be expanded to 29 lanes from 16 lanes; gate operations will utilise the latest technology to speed approved entry-exit trucks through, while providing maximum security and optimal routing while in the terminal.
In addition seamless intermodal rail connections will be provided via the adjacent Greenville rail transfer yard, which is being redeveloped by the port authority into a modern intermodal rail transfer facility capable of working 32 five-well rail cars on eight working tracks.
