The twin set deck length wagons are designed to maximise the number of 40ft containers that can be hauled on one service without empty running or 20ft wasted space.
Ecofret ‘Shortliner’ wagons maximise port and inland capacity, reduce CO2 emissions by removing trucks from the UK’s roads, and increase network utilisation.
Using the new rolling stock the company is able to haul longer, heavier trains, using PowerHaul locomotives. This enables it to increase the number of 40ft containers hauled per train by over 42% compared to a standard Class 66 service, hauling 24 wagons, whilst still fulfilling the 20ft market demand.
