The ship forms part of the North Europe Express (or Condor Express) service, which will call at ports in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, the Panama Canal, and Colombia on its northbound rotation before continuing to northern European ports including Bilbao, Marin and Pontevedra in Spain, Le Havre in France, Antwerp and Dunkirk in Belgium, Rotterdam in Holland and Hamburg in Germany. The service will run regularly every 15 days.
The port authority and CCNI will work together to promote the Port of Manta’s services, hoping to attract business from shippers in the city’s hinterland, which potentially include significant fisheries, banana, and shrimp concerns. They are also hoping to generate cargo volumes by targeting potential shippers in Guayaquil, Quito and other cities. A series of meetings has been arranged with narcotics, customs and other agencies to prepare for new, integrated services run by the port and its partners.
“From May 23, CCNI will begin container transportation through Manta, capitalising on its potential and the advantages offered by its facilities, plus its recent BASC certification as a secure port, which makes it more competitive,” said Fernando Donoso of shipping agency Marglobal, acting for CCNI.
