The vessels, which are being built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China, are scheduled for delivery from May 2014 onwards and follow the company\’s orders earlier this year for up to 12 newbuilding bulk carriers and container ships from other prominent Chinese shipyards.
This latest deal underlines Lomar\’s comprehensive fleet renewal strategy with the latest in energy-saving and fuel-efficient designs. The order will take its fleet to over 50 vessels.
\”There is a distinct lack of global newbuilding orders for these particular improved CV1100 ships, so they will meet real needs and be vital to the future of high-performance shipping around the world,\” said Achim Boehme, CEO of Lomar.
