According to the company, the crane combines the mobility of the classic rubber-tyred mobile harbour crane with the benefits of a ‘drive-under’ solution, having a standard portal with a propping base of 12.5 metres x 11 m, a clearance height of 6 m and a clear width of 9.5 m. This allows ample space for terminal vehicles to pass underneath it, while also ensuring that heavy goods vehicles and railway traffic or, alternatively, conveyor belts, can operate beneath the crane on terminals where space is restricted.
Mounted on rubber tyres, the crane is itself mobile. Its four axles, with two sub-frames each, can be steered at up to 40° for crab steering, tight turning circles and even on-the-spot turning. According to Gottwald, this guarantees good manoeuvrability even on very narrow quays for fast, easy positioning alongside a vessel.
With a maximum lifting capacity of 80 tonne, radius of up to 40 metres and hoisting speeds of up to 120 m/min, the Model 2 offers considerably higher lifting capacity, a two metre extension to the working radius and faster working speeds compared to its predecessor, the 63-tonne HMK 170 Mobile Harbour Crane. Further changes include AC powered hoists and slewing gear units, as well as the options of energy-efficient hybrid drive and equipment for hooking up to a quayside power supply.
