Last week (June 12) the union started an indefinite strike in protest at the concession awarded by the government to APM Terminals (APMT) to operate the proposed Moín Container Terminal.
Minister of the Presidency, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, said, “The unions have agreed to talk but on the condition that we only discuss the subject of ports. Nevertheless, first of all there has to be an end to the violence.”
Rolando Blear, general secretary of the port workers\’ union underlined his members\’ position. “We are against the monopoly granted to APM Terminals. Stevedores will be put out of work,” he stressed.
