The vehicle, which is designed with a low centre of gravity, has an optimised weight of 18 tonnes and uses only 3.7 litres of fuel per hour thereby offering significant savings in energy consumption. Operating at 30 km/hour with empty containers it has what the company claims to be additional ‘strong competitive assets’.
These include an active hydraulic suspension system for use in existing terminals without the need for additional strengthening of the dock working area, and berthing precision of close to two centimetres provided by the axle system and electronic guidance correction.
Gaussin has partnered with Gotting KG for the automatic track guidance system, which uses transponders placed on the ground and a set of flat antennas fixed to the front and the rear of the vehicle allowing it to communicate and transmit operational instructions.
