During the strike, Rolando Blear, general secretary of the port workers\’ union underlined his members\’ position. “We are against the monopoly granted to APM Terminals. Stevedores will be put out of work,” he stressed.
In response, the government claimed that the new terminal would generate 2,000 fixed jobs and 8,000 indirect in Limón province, which is one of the poorest in the country, located 170km east of the capital, San José.
