The unloading of 436 containers from the MSC Esha ran smoothly demonstrating the successful integration of the terminal equipment with HPH’s proprietary terminal operating system (TOS) nGen. The terminal’s average productivity rate achieved was 30 moves per crane, which is expected will set new standards for the port.
Muelle Prat is the first semi-automated terminal in the HPH global port network; it is scheduled to be fully operational during 2013 and when complete, will have 1500 metres of quay, a depth of 16.5 m and a 100-hectare container storage yard.
The terminal is described as the most technologically advanced port development project in Spain, capable of serving multiple mega-vessels simultaneously. It has an eight-track rail freight facility and the largest on-dock rail terminal of any port in the Mediterranean, connecting it to traffic coming from and destined for Southern Europe.
