In the first five months of this year, the terminal handled 94,270 teu, up 18.5% compared to the same period in 2011. Since May, NUTEP has also gained two new regional/common weekly feeder services to Turkey, operated by the United Feeder Service (UFS) and the ARKAS Group’s feeder specialist EMES.
The company is expanding its landside operations to cope with the expected increase in traffic, with the existing rail facility being relocated and expanded to provide a five-track rail park; this will enable two block trains to be handled simultaneously. The relocation of the rail facility will enable container capacity to increase from its present 12,000 teu to 20,000 teu by 2013.
In view of this development and increasing demand from customers, the Global Container Service Group (GCS), the largest private intermodal operator in Southern Russia and Novorossiysk, has recently added 224 rail flat-cars to its existing fleet. It plans to further increase its number of long-term leased flat-cars to over 450 units, which will be deployed on block trains to principal destinations in the European part of Russia, including Moscow.
