Although the Commonwealth accepted for further review APMT’s proposal, pursuant to the Public-Private Transportation Act of 1995, it has set a new deadline of August 13. The move follows objections from shippers and other shipping lines to the potential ‘monopoly’ that APMT and its parent Maersk could have on container operations.
An addendum to the ‘Request for Alternative Proposals’ has been issued by the Secretary’s office through the Office of Transportation Public-Private Partnerships, which sets out the revised schedule. Once alternative proposal, if any, are received, the Commonwealth will determine whether or not to advance one or more or none of the proposals.
In a statement, the Commonwealth said it was under no obligation to accept any alternative proposals, or enter into any agreements related to APMT\’s unsolicited conceptual proposal.
