Sydney Ports CEO, Grant Gilfillan, said trade volumes were up almost 1% on the previous financial year driven by higher imports and a solid trading performance by the State’s regional and rural export sector.
“Issues with the weather, stevedore equipment failures and protracted EA negotiations, all had a big effect on trade volumes during the financial year. Transhipments were down 20% but if they had remained consistent trade container growth would have exceeded 3% on the previous year.”
“Total full container exports for the year 2011/12 saw exports rise by more than 4% over the same period last year reaching over 365,064 teu with full containerised imports increasing by almost the same amount as exports.
