Since 2007 the company has been investing in the construction of specialised silo facilities for the containerisation of export grains. The annual traffic produced by this method, which is still a rare concept in Russia, was almost 4,800 teu in 2011 with shipments to SE Asia, the ISC and Eastern Mediterranean
The company believes there is great potential for the containerisation of grains in Russia, given that the country is one of the world largest exporters. In addition, it sees opportunities for the containerisation of fertilisers, including nitroammophos, ammonium nitrate and carbamide; more than 2,000 teu are shipped annually through GCS’ off-dock terminals.
Another important investment undertaken by GCS in recent years has been the development of a terminal complex for the loading of bulk liquids into flexi-tanks; around 1,500 teu are shipped each year.
