During his time he has helped guide the Port of Virginia through a difficult period as a result of the worldwide economic slowdown; this has included restructuring the Port and overseeing VPA’s long-term lease of the APM Terminals facility. He also became chairman of the board of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA).
“In so many different ways Jerry has done a lot of good for this port and for that we all thank him,” said Michael Quillen, chairman of the VPA’s board. “Through his work, his connections across the globe and his service on various industry boards, he has helped to raise the profile of this facility and for that we are grateful. We wish him well in his next endeavour.”
Quillen said Bridges will continue to help guide the port through the next two months. Presently, the board of commissioners is finalising its plan for an interim executive director; an announcement on the way ahead will be made shortly.
