The Straits-East India service will call at the port on a fortnightly basis. The first call is planned on September 27 with the CAPE MAGNUS. The service will henceforth call at Singapore, Port Kelang (Westport), Port Kelang (KCT), Chennai, Krishnapatnam (1/4), Visakhapatnam (2/4), Port Kelang (KCT), Port Kelang (Westport), Singapore. It turns in two separate loops (of two weeks and three weeks rotation respectively) with five ships of 1,600-3,500 teu offering twice weekly sailings on the main ports.
According to Alphaliner, the five ships deployed on the service are Wan Hai 262 (1,658 teu contributed by Wan Hai), Passat Spring (2,728 teu – BTL), Euromax (2,732 teu – BTL), Cape Magnus (2,741 teu – BTL) and APL Sohhna (3,534 teu – APL).
The 1.2m teu capacity terminal at Krishnapatnam has handled irregular vessel calls since it opened in September 2011. The 4,200 teu Maersk Dalton was the first containership to call at the port on September 30. Most of the vessel calls so far were to handle empty containers.
